Lesson information and recording attainments

Lesson information and recording attainments

There are a variety of ways to see the different pieces of information that teachers will need for each lesson, such as the skills and knowledge statement covered, the programme of study the lesson is linked to, and then how to record that the lesson has been taught and how the children have attained.

The lesson information area is where you can view your lesson, objectives and mark attainments against the lesson objectives. The lesson information can be accessed by clicking on a 'Lesson' or 'Taught' button in your timetable.

Maestro will now allow you to see any previous attainments of an objective at the planning and teaching stage. When you enter the lesson information area, it will tell you at the top of the page if you are in Planning mode (and when the lesson is scheduled for) or Assessment mode

Once you click on 'Lesson' the page is then split into 3 sections:
  1. Lessons - lesson description, resource links, teacher notes (with the option to add/edit in Planning mode) and any school adaptations.
  2. Coverage - the planned objectives for the lesson (including the option to View progression).
  3. Attainments - view any previous attainments for the planned objectives and the place to mark attainment after you have taught the lesson when in Assessment mode

You can save time marking attainments by creating Learning groups for smaller groups within a class.

Prior attainments

The three dots show the three most recent attainments for that objective (the most recent on the left). If you click on 'View progression' on any of the objectives in Planning mode, it allows you to view the progression of that singular objective. It also gives the ability to add previous or future objectives to the lesson you are planning.

Use the 'Previous' or 'Next' buttons to navigate between objectives. You can use the 'Add objective' button or click the check box at the top of the year group column to select the objective(s) that you wish to add. The original objective for the lesson has a small label at the top of the column that says 'Included'. Please note, the original lesson objective may not be removed.

Any objectives you select will appear in a green box at the top of the screen and can be saved by clicking Apply (clicking Revert will remove the objectives).

Any objectives that you add (and click 'Apply') can be removed in the 'Coverage' tab.

 Completing attainments

The pupils' attainment of a lesson’s knowledge and skills objectives can be recorded in a variety of ways. It can be done through the timetable, in the projects, from your Maestro homepage, and in the ‘My lessons’ area. Knowledge and skills objectives can also be recorded on the Class attainment page, should you want to record objectives that have not been taught through a planned lesson.

If you want to know how to record attainments from a specific page within Maestro, please use the following links for a more in-depth guide on how to do this:

Editing Attainments

When you click to Edit attainments, it will take you to the Attainments tab, so you may record coverage and attainment of individual children, groups or classes.

  1. Choose your class or learning group (you can select multiple groups/classes if required). You will be able to see their previous attainments for the planned objectives. The three dots show the three most recent attainments for that objective (with the most recent on the left):
  2. Either click Select attainment on the left-hand side to record all skills and knowledge as AttainedPartially attainedNot attained or Not taught for a single child. Use the ‘Attainment’ button on top of a column to fill a whole column. You may also click on individual attainments to make amendments as required.
  3. Use the ‘Prev’ and ‘Next’ buttons to look at the previous or next year group’s objectives, and record those as attained if required. Clicking ‘View progression’ enables you to view the progression of that singular objective in a new tab but you will not be able to add any objectives.
  4. Click 'Save' .

You can view attainments in Teacher Assessment and Actual coverage.

Review Attainments

Once a lesson has been marked as 'Taught', you can click on the lesson to review the attainments. This can be done through the timetable, My lessons, Actual coverage or Teacher assessment. To make changes:
  1. Click on a lesson and click 'Review full screen' to enter the attainments area.
  2. You can the click on any attainment judgement and update them as required to either AttainedPartially attainedNot attained or Not taught.
  3. Click 'Save'.

You may also select 'Delete attainments' to remove all the attainments made for the lesson.

Info
On the Review page, you are unable to move between year groups for the skills and knowledge. This screen is designed only to amend the original attainments made, not to add any more.
