Reviewing your curriculum

Reviewing your curriculum

You may wish to review your designed curriculum to ensure that is suitable, before the start of each new academic year. If you do not wish to change your projects, you can continue using your current curriculum and update your classes (Maestro admins can click  Sync school data on the school's personal dashboard tab found in the top left corner of your Maestro homepage to perform a data sync) at the start of the next year.

Update the title of your curriculum

Go to Design and lead > Live curriculum and click on the Details tab at the top of the page. You can then edit the name of the curriculum and click 'Save':

The rest of this article will help if you would like to make changes to your current curriculum or would like to start again.

Create a copy of your current curriculum and make a copy

If you are happy with your curriculum but would like to make changes to it for the following year, click on the arrow button next to your name in the top-right corner and select 'All curriculums'.

Click on the settings icon next to the name of the curriculum and click 'Copy'.

Type in your new curriculum name and change the type to a 'school' curriculum and then click 'Create'.

This curriculum can then be edited and prepared before being activated, ready for the next academic year. You can access it by clicking on the arrow next to your name in the top-right corner and selecting 'All curriculums' again. The curriculum will be labelled 'copied'.

To edit this copied curriculum, click on the title of the curriculum and click 'Open curriculum'.

While the copied curriculum is the non-active curriculum, you can only use the tabs along the top of the page when navigating around the curriculum. Using the sidebar menu automatically takes you back into the live curriculum.

When you are ready to activate the copied curriculum, click on the settings icon next to the name of the curriculum and click 'Activate'.

WarningMaking a curriculum 'active' will log out all school users, so please ensure you have informed staff and that it is a convenient time.

Changing your curriculum's cycle

If you have a mixed-aged curriculum and are moving to a new cycle, you will need to do the following at the start of the new academic year:
  1. Go to Settings > School Settings > Current curriculum in the left-hand menu.
  2. Select the correct cycle from the drop down menu in the middle of the bar and click Save.

Start a new curriculum

If you want to create a brand-new curriculum, go to our article: Design a new curriculum for more details on the different options. If you want to put together your own sequence of projects or build a curriculum using projects you have made yourself:
  1. Go to Design and Lead > Design new curriculum.
  2. Select 'Build your own curriculum' from the tabs at the top.
  3. Click 'Create curriculum'.
  4. Add a Curriculum name (e.g. School curriculum 2022-23).
  5. *Optional step: Deselect White Rose Maths and/or Love to Celebrate.
  6. *Optional step: Make the curriculum 'Active' (Warning: this will replace your current live curriculum and class plans immediately).
  7. Click  'Create'.
*Our curriculum model includes White Rose Maths planning and resources, and Love to Celebrate (RE) planning and resources. If you're not sure whether you want to include these, leave them selected as they can be removed at a later stage if not required.

Tip: if you want to build a curriculum using projects you have made yourself, please read the article: School projects

Your curriculum has now been created, and you can now move on to making the curriculum bespoke to your school. If you haven't made the curriculum 'Active' already, once you are happy with your curriculum, and are ready to use it, you will need to activate it, so it is live for all staff to use.
