Many schools use a variety of different projects types to create their own curriculums, and they can add their own projects using the Create school projects feature. Once you've created your own school projects, you can add them to your curriculum like any Cornerstones project and track coverage and attainment of the lessons.
Why create school projects?
Creating school projects can be a great way to cover any gaps in coverage or for creating a more bespoke curriculum for your school, such as linking to your local history. When you create a school project and build your own lessons that are linked to our skills and knowledge, it enables you to track coverage and attainment against the National Curriculum and demonstrate how you have adapted and developed your curriculum for the needs of your school. Any school projects that are added into the school curriculum count in the school's overall intended coverage.
Below are some of the most common reasons for creating school projects:
- to include local history, geography or events
- to develop companion projects for short, focused topics, such as science week, Christmas activities, Easter and community weeks
- to cover gaps in coverage based on current project choices
- to acknowledge the creativity of teachers who have created successful projects or topics previously
- to support peripatetic teaches with specific subject focus, such as music or PE
- to build in other programmes used in school to track coverage and attainment all in one place, such as SPaG, religious education and modern foreign languages
Creating a school project
- Go to Design and lead > School projects.
- Click 'Create'.
- Add a title (Optional: make it a companion to another project).
- Add a driver subject (Optional: choose an image and add a description).
- Click 'Next'.
This creates the Lesson builder tab. The next step is to create lessons for your project.
- Go to the Lesson builder tab.
- Click 'Create lesson'.
- Use the filters to search by year group, or All PoS/Just gaps.
- Once the PoS have loaded, use the > button on the right to view available skills.
- Select the skill that you will create the lesson from.
- Click 'Create' and choose whether to create one lesson or, if you have selected multiple objectives, one lesson per objective.
- Click 'Save'.
You can create individual lessons with multiple skills, or create a group of individual lessons each with a single skill. Your lessons will appear in a list. Use the arrows to drag and drop them into the order that you wish to teach them.
Editing and grouping lessons
To edit a lesson, click the blue pencil icon on the right hand side of an individual lesson.
You can edit the title, duration, description or edit the objective(s) that you have chosen. To group lessons together you can add a focus. Adding the same focus to multiple individual lessons will group them together.

Make sure that, whenever you make changes, you click 'Save' in the top left hand corner of the 'Edit school project' page.
Deleting school projects
To delete a school project:
- Go to Design and lead > School projects.
- Click the title of the project you wish to delete.
- Click 'Options' button at the top of the screen.
- Select 'Delete project'.

This project will then be removed from your Live curriculum, Curriculum plan and Class plans if it has been added, unless attainments have been recorded from lessons within the project. In that case the project cannot be deleted as the recorded attainments would also be deleted.
