Checking and analysing coverage

Checking and analysing coverage

The Coverage analysis within the cwricwlwm designer is perfect for senior leaders and AoLE leaders to check and, if necessary, plan to ensure that all AoLE what matters statements are covered, at the desired depth, by the school’s curriculum.

What does the Coverage tab show?

The Coverage tab is populated by the projects that you have chosen across the whole school. This is your intended coverage and is what may or may not be taught over an extended period.

Coverage includes all of the Curriculum for Wales what matters statements and for each WMS, you can look at the more specific coverage of the Cornerstones skills and knowledge framework.  It is a school’s choice as to how they cover the WMS, and they do not have to cover all skills and/or knowledge statements.

Analysing coverage

Use the filters at the top of the page to choose an AoLE, filter for single or multiple year groups and select whether you'd like to see 'All WMS, AoLE gaps, or All gaps'.
  1. All WMS will show all WMS for the selected AoLE
  2. AoLE gaps will show only the WMS that are not being covered for the selected AoLE
  3. All gaps will show all gaps in the curriculum for all AoLEs.
The solid green circle under each project title shows you how many times a WMS is being covered within that project. Clicking on this green circle will show you the lessons that cover this WMS.  An outlined green circle under a project shows you coverage of the WMS which has been added by a teacher creating lessons within the project. This helps you show how your coverage is being made bespoke by the school.

Click the 'Objectives'  button to see which skills and/or knowledge statements cover elements of that WMS.
  1. green Objectives  button means that you are covering all elements of the WMS.
  2. An orange Objectives button means that you are covering some of the elements of that WMS.
  3. An orange Objectives button with the warning triangle means that you are not covering any elements of that WMS.
After clicking an Objectives button, the green outlined circle shows how many times each objective is planned to be covered. Click on the circle to show which lessons are covering the selected objective.

Adding to coverage

Any SLT or Maestro administrator can assign skills to existing projects, or create a school project to help with coverage of the Curriculum for Wales.

Excluding/removing coverage

Once your projects are added to your curriculum, senior leaders can decide to make exclusions within their chosen projects to remove coverage from their Intended coverage and Progression. On the Cwricwlwm sequence tab within your live curriculum, they can exclude whole AoLEs or individual lessons if they are not appropriate for their setting, or are being taught discretely elsewhere:
  1. Click on the image of the project that you wish to exclude lessons or an AoLE from.
  2. Click 'Coverage exclusions'.
  3. In the top right, choose either 'Group by stage' or 'Group by AoLE'.'
  4. Click to exclude' individual lessons or groups of lessons.
  5. Click 'Save'.
To view coverage exclusions, go to the Coverage exclusions tab and click on each project to view the coverage exclusions for each project.
